Howdy all,

My real name is Dan, friends call me Geezer (cuz I'm sort of old fashioned).

I've been doing repairs and modifications to friends guitars during the past few years and am looking into a repair/maintenence job during my retirement.
I won't take on really big projects...I know my current limitations. I'll soon be building a guitar from a kit, only because I don't yet have all the tools that I'll need.
each smaller job contributes toward future tooling purchases.
I have done a lot of furniture projects, bith old & new, and recently completed a fiddle kit with a few modifications...most notably a bolt on neck!
Here's a link to the build process: http://s49.photobucket.com/user/dcarey69/story/11539

I'll keep my mouth shut and my ears open for a while!

Geezer (Dan)

Another welcome from another old guy, Dan. And judging from your fiddle build, you will have no trouble with your guitar. Very impressive.

Welcome! I'm new to guitar building myself, also making the jump from violins. I've found this forum incredibly helpful, and had the pleasure of meeting a couple folks from here at the Woodstock Luthier fest. You'll find that guitar bracing a little more complicated that violins! But guitars seem to be much more forgiving (and even inviting) for those wanting to deviate from conventional norms. Don't get me wrong, I love the tradition of violins, but did I get the hairy eyeball when even suggesting doing something slightly different! ;-)
